Try a Math Dice Game

Math games for middle school are a fun way to practice problem-solving skills in an interactive way. Dice games are an excellent way to get your student excited about their math lessons by reviving a classic game with math-related tasks. To start, have your student gather up six dice and four task cards. Assign point values to each of the dice and the task cards. The point values can range from 1-5 depending on what type of math problem you decide to assign (e.g. addition, subtraction, multiplication, division). Depending on the level of difficulty that you want to achieve, you can also incorporate word problems or math facts into the game as well.

Once that is set up, create questions that correspond with each task card or specific dice game based on a certain mathematical operator (addition, subtraction, etc.). After asking each question with the appropriate point value assigned for each one, have your student roll all six dice and keep track of their score as they answer questions from the four task cards available. The person who has the highest overall score wins!
