4 Awesome Swiss Outdoor Activities

A day trip is a perfect way to break up an itinerary filled with big cities and museums. How about a 9-day grand tour of Switzerland road trip? This Switzerland wanderlust itinerary is so great I couldn’t help but include it!

Museums

When you purchase a Swiss Rail Pass you get free or discounted admission into more than 400 museums. That is an awesome deal! Below you can read about a few of the museums we enjoyed the most in some of our favorite Swiss cities.

Basel Museums with Kids

Bern City Guide – Einstein Museum

St Gallen Travel Tips – Natural History Museum

There are still 400 other museums that might interest you all over Switzerland. When you purchase your Swiss Rail Pass, you will get the whole list. For more details, check out this Swiss Rail Pass post.

Traditional Swiss Food & Culture

Don’t miss a bucket list experience on your visit to Switzerland. Plan a food or cultural activity for a taste of local Swiss culture. Cheese, chocolate, wine and so much more! Who can resist? Here’s just a few to give you a taster.

Transportation

You can find rental cars fairly inexpensively. This is a good option if you want to take a more relaxed day trip out of the city or if you are wanting to get to some great outdoor activities not easily accessible by train. However, I would still recommend the rail pass because of its ease of use across multiple types of transportation (bus, ferry, and train) and free museum admission. Swiss trains go just about everywhere, and if not, then there will usually be a bus.

If you’re still looking for cheap flights, keep checking the discount sites. Skyscanner is my fave. Grab their app and get ready to find the best price!

Remember, the Swiss Rail Pass offers 480 ways to save.

Lodging

House sitting has become my favorite way to afford lodging. Check it out and find what best fits your family’s needs. You could save thousands of dollars on your next vacation!

Family-friendly hostels and apartment/flat rental are great options for those traveling with kids. Having a place to unwind and enjoy a hot meal while a tired kiddo relaxes can turn a good travel day into a GREAT travel memory.

Yes, You Need Travel Insurance!

Not sure why you need travel insurance? Check out The Mini Travel Planning Course to understand more.

RoamRight.com offers great travel insurance to fit all your travel needs.

Finally, I barely scratched the surface of all the great things there are to do when you visit Switzerland. But with a  rail pass and a few fun excursions and outdoor activities, my fellow travel junkies are already packing their bags and booking tickets.

What’s on your wanderlust adventure list for Switzerland? I’d love to add your ideas to my next visit. Share ’em in the comments!
