Wrecked By Thankfulness: Good Gifts

Read parts 1-4 for the whole Wrecked by Thankfulness story about how we are thankful that God desires to give us good gifts.

About a year and a half later in the spring of 2014,  my husband came to the kitchen one morning and said, “Ya know that job in Scotland? They’ve reworked it so there might be a possibility to take the job without the licensing test. Should I apply?”

While I was weary from even the idea of the prospects of moving, I told him it was really up to him. If he felt like it was what God wanted for us and he was willing to step out in faith again, then I would support him every step of the way.

Six months later, almost to the day, we were on a flight to Scotland. Our worldly possessions sold or given away and everything we deemed important and necessary tightly packed into 8 carry-ons and 8 suitcases.

Crazy Good Gifts

And so the new adventure was beginning. Everyone thought we were crazy. My son was still a complicated medical case. But we had found amazing doctors in Scotland that were willing to take on his case and give him the care he needed.

Now we are coming up on our 5 year anniversary of living in Scotland.

God has continued to richly bless us with friends and community in the most surprising ways. He has continued to bless my son with good health and growth such that his kidney now functions at 100%. Ian no longer has any signs of heart disease. His blood pressure is managed in the normal ranges for kiddos his age. He still stumps doctors about his medical condition, but now in a good way.

A History of Giving Thanks.

Of course, we know that life will continue to have bumps and challenges along the way. However, we also know that we are blessed with a history of giving thanks in all things.

I encourage you to take the time to remember the difficult times in your life, in the past or in the present. List the places where you see God’s faithfulness.  It might be as simple as a child’s improved handwriting. Maybe it’s the energy to get the laundry folded and put away.

When you look at your past, where was God faithful and worthy of thanksgiving?

When you consider today, where do you see God’s is faithfulness to you at this moment in time?

As you consider your future, where do you need to press in and trust that’s God’s faithfulness goes before you and is preparing away?

May your family experience the joy and blessing of a thankful heart this holiday season. Stay captivated by His good gifts. Get wrecked by thankfulness.
