Jane Austen’s Regency Era England
The Regency Era in England was marked by the end of the reign of King George III which was then handed to his son, the Prince of Wales in 1811. King George III was too ill to rule, so his son George IV ruled until 1820 as the Prince Regent. This title was used until the death of his father, George III, and the Prince Regent officially took the throne and became known as King George IV until his death in 1830.
Jane Austen was born in Steventon, England in 1775. Her father was the Rector of a country church in southern England.
