The Secret To Kidztype Gameschooling With Typedojo.Com

Do you remember taking a typing test in school? I sure do! Mr. Swenson calling out from the front of the room over  the din of 25 typewriters, “a-a-a -space, comma, comma, comma, space……return”

Ok, I’m dating myself, I know, but there is something about learning to type properly that stays with you the whole of your life. It’s like riding a bike. You don’t really forget.

But… times have changed, even keyboarding, as it is now called, is far more ‘hunt  & peck’ for kids. And, don’t even get me started on how texting with just your thumbs can even be considered typing. For me it comes down to this:

Learn good online touch typing habits. Use your skills regularly.

How to ‘Level Up’ Using TypeDojo Typing Games

Ok, I know your kids are just like mine. They want it to be fun, not take too long and be able to ‘level up’ as quickly as possible.  In fact, if it didn’t look like schoolwork at all that would be perfect!

Well, I decided I was going to let my kids play games all summer! You should have seen their faces. I’m sure you could hear the amplified “YESSSSS!!!” 2 streets away!  I’m secretly calling it “The Summer of Typing” but the kids are ready every day to play the typing games.

The only prerequisite, which I asked them to do, is that they spend 10-15 minutes each day doing the practice exercises and log their results. KidsType is just a super fun kids website full of typing games, like KidzType Dance Mat Typing, which your kids will love.

Encourage the kids to practice their typing dojo every day.

Once they have finished their practice exercise, they get ‘game time’. Let them choose 15 more minutes of their favorite typing game. 30 minutes of typing practice each day – that’s way more than I actually got listening to Mr. Swenson holler out instructions in class.

How to start with Online Touch Typing

Start off working on online touch typing for a few minutes, then let them have fun learning touch typing with a couple more free typing practice sessions. Then, it’s time for fun typing games.

Remember, when they improve their speed and/or accuracy give the kids 15 more minutes of game time.

KidzType is so fun & they will never have to endure Mr. Swenson hollering, ‘Lift your wrists, and straighten up your posture!”  Although I confess, I may have said exactly that last week.

There are 20+ Type Dojo free typing games.

There are so many fun typing games to choose from. My son’s favorite is the Cute Jumper. It was quick and easy and he could practice just a few letters at a time. As he improved the number of keystrokes needed to ‘level-up’ increased. After each practice session and game, he would log his progress on the Type Tracker Log Sheet (below).

Get your download and use it to keep track of the amount of time tracked. Using the Type Tracker Log Sheet makes it super easy to keep track of things throughout the school year.

.

Pick up your free practice log sheet so the kids can keep track of what they have learned so they earn more typing game time and you have a record of what was completed so you can count it for homeschool lessons.
