How To Use Project Passport – Ancient Rome In Your Travels & Your Homeschool,
Here’s how I suggest using Project Passport Ancient Rome in your travels and your homeschool, having just taken the kids to Rome last year.
Book A Trip To Italy.
No matter what cities you choose to visit you will be smack-dab in the middle of the Roman Empire, so studying ancient Rome on location, won’t be a problem. Here are some tips and tricks on how to make travel to Europe affordable.
Start Studying Ancient Rome
A few weeks or months before your departure date, begin going through the reading, travel itinerary and activities from the zip file you receive with your purchase of Project Passport Ancient Rome. Your kids will love the lap book activities, creating a timeline, and reading the engaging chapter sections or ‘Stops’ as they are called.
Pack Up Your Gear
The week before departure, download the audio files (mp3s) and text files (pdf) to the electronic devices you plan to take with you on your journey to Italy. Use these digital resources strategically before your trip and during your flight. You’ll want to pack light with only the needed homeschool gear in your backpack or carry-on.
Start Learning On Location About Italy
Once you are on your way to Italy. These resources included in the Project Passport Ancient Rome study are available to inspire adventure and help you learn on location in Italy. Here’s how:
- Read-aloud each evening for the whole family to connect and engage in learning about the history of the next day’s location. The Guidebook Texts included are the perfect length and super fun to use.
- Listen to the mp3 files as you move between cities. There is over an hour of dramatized stories. broken up into short sections, Whether you are traveling by plane, train or car, the audio stores are perfect to pass the time while you gaze out the window and contemplate what happened so many years ago when the Roman Empire was in full swing.
Capture The Moment
Take lots of pictures. I’m sure that won’t be a problem! One fun thing to do if you have the entire family traveling together, and not so many devices, is to let one child be the photographer for a day. Let them capture the day’s activities and memories. It’s a great way to get pictures of everyone throughout the vacation.
Share What You Learned
You will probably share your pictures and videos on social media, so right now just have fun enjoying your family travel adventure in Italy. When you get home, you can add your pictures to the “Scrapbook of Sights” items in the Project Ancient Rome. Look for these in each section of the Ancient Rome Study. Have fun blending your pictures from your trip with all the things you learned about Ancient Rome.
Plan a party! Invite your friends or family over to talk about what you studied on your trip – especially the history, geography, literature, art, etc. that you learned about while you were in Italy. You can pull out your “Scrapbook of Sights” and tell them all about it!
